This series of artworks are studies from my many travels in the Australian outback. My inspiration comes from engaging with the natural beauty of the wilderness places I visit, and also the distillation of these experiences in the studio. I initially attempt to capture the encounters through painting studies and photographs.
A 2015 residency in the Queensland outback and a more recent journey to the Kimberley in Western Australia, travelling via lake Eyre and The Painted Desert and also visiting the Pilbra, allowed me to engage with the history of the people who chose to live in the isolated areas. Many accomplished artists have undertaken this journey and I am excited to be walking in their footsteps.
